Heaven's Gate
1997
Made for my graduate thesis show, Heaven's Gate was an attempt to recreate a somewhat grubby urban park, surrounded by spring-flowering trees. The floor of the piece was hardened, packed dirt littered with dog droppings. On a battery-powered boom box a slow beat was playing. On the night of the opening I hired several teenagers to slow dance in the middle of the park.
