Portraits of Europe by an American
Portraits of Europe by an American
1999

This is a four part installation made up of a wall from the Guggenheim Bilbao, a model trimaran, an orchid shanty and an article that tied the elements together. The article describes how a German engineer, Reiner Hoffman, was dismissed from his position as head of a trimaran global circumnavigation project, because in order to raise money he imported contraband orchids. He kept the orchids (which I made of wax and fabric) in a shanty in his backyard.
